The House With a Lake View

There once was a simple house with a spectacular view of the lake across from their property. Looking out from the front of the house, the owners enjoyed a beautiful, unobstructed view of the lake.

So what’s the problem? When they entertained guests or simply relaxed on their own, they used their deck – in back of the house – with no possible view of the gorgeous lake.

We also spotted another problem – with only a minimal roof overhang, the owners would get soaked in the rain while unlocking their door. Even worse, with no protection at the front door, visitors would be waiting in the rain while the home owners came to let them in. And, let’s face it, the design of their house was quite simple and plain.

During our Design Consultation, we listened to their concerns and goals. The owner felt that having a porch would solve these challenges, and so he had originally set about designing the porch on his own. But, he wasn’t completely sure how to go about it, and wasn’t confident that he knew how to make it look really great. Knowing that he wanted it done in the best possible manner, he called on us to design it instead.

When the project was complete, the owners just loved the result! His design had been as simple as the modest design of the rest of the house, so while the porch would have been functional, it would not have been transformational. He recognized that had he gone ahead with his own design, the result would not have been as warm, inviting and attractive.

The construction costs would have been the same regardless of who designed it, but the result would have fallen short without the benefit of our design esthetics and expertise.

The detailing and the proportions is what made this project work so well. We were very careful about the details, including what materials should be used, and the contractor meticulously followed our design.

Because it was a large porch on a modest-sized home, we created a wow factor!

Not only was the front of the house now much more attractive and charming, the front door had ample protection against the elements, they had an additional area to entertain, and could now appreciate their view.

We designed a spacious and lovely porch, so that the home owners and their guests could now relax, socialize and appreciate their unobstructed view of the lake. Isn’t it amazing how a simple change in structure can result in a true transformation?

Besides a front porch, a great view, and a protected entry way, the home owners received added benefits from this project.
