A Young Adult Is Proud to Live At Home
We worked with homeowners recently who saw potential in the house they had purchased just a few years ago. It was a late 1950’s split level which needed renovation of the interior areas to meet the owner’s 2019 lifestyle. Last time we showed you how we transformed their family room from Dark and Dreary to Sunny and Cheery.
In this episode, we’ll show you how we rescued a college-aged son from admitting, “I’m still living at home” to proudly declaring, “I have my own apartment at home”.
Part Two- An Apartment of His Own
The homeowners’ college-aged son wanted to save money while attending school full time. Like many young adults, the best way for that to happen is to remain living with mom and dad. But at his age, he really needed and deserved his own apartment, and the current state of the basement was dismal at best, with harsh lighting, dark paneling, a lack of sunlight and a column in the middle of it.
“After”
Real walls replaced the paneling. We updated the lighting and created a space he could proudly entertain in.
A welcoming entry way, a new modern bathroom,
plenty of light and room to stretch out and
relax – with privacy.
This young adult’s apartment has a sleeping area, sitting area for entertaining guests and a beautiful full bath.
Gone is the old suspended ceiling and harsh lighting. In went recessed lighting, larger windows, and lots of closet space. And since all bedrooms must have an egress window, we made sure his bedroom had the required ability to exit safely in case of a fire.
